Local nursing homes are seeing a different kind of resident—they’re younger and often face substance use and behavioral health issues.
This is why we’re collaborating with Rhode Island College and the Substance Use & Mental Health Leadership Council of Rhode Island to train medical professionals on how to best handle the needs of this population and changing landscape. The project is being supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as part of a 2-year Special Innovation Project.
Gail Patry, RN, CPEHR, our Chief Program Officer at Healthcentric Advisors, spoke to Caring for the Ages about how nursing homes are increasingly serving younger populations, how that impacts care, and what we’re doing to help.
